A Week of Walks

Back in June 2020, we were still in lockdown due to Covid and weren't able to socialise with anyone outside our immediate households.  But we still had annual leave to take!   Bearing this in mind, I took a week off work and spent it on solitary walks around Norfolk.  Sadly Finn was no longer able to do some of these longer walks, which meant I spent most of the time on my own.

I was able to have a socially distanced walk with Amanda - basically, travelling to our destination in separate cars and then walking on different sides of the road!   We walked an old favourite of ours around Hockering and Mattishall.

I also walked on lanes and footpaths around Worstead.

And finally a walk around the lanes and paths of North Elmham, before popping to Mum and Dad's and sitting, socially distanced, in their garden.

Spots

 It appears that 2020 was the year of the spotty scarf.   The first one I made (started in May 2020) was using twelve mini skeins of Shannon's yarns, where the stripes and spots colours changed every 24 rows.

I'm afraid I can't take credit for this photo - it was a Blue Fern Yarns publicity shot - Shannon does it so well!

The next incarnation was in blues and greens where, again, the stripes and spots colours changed on every 25th row.

And the final version for the year was different in that the spots remained the same colour throughout with the stripe colour changing.

These won't be the last ones I make - they're so effective but so simple.

Wensum Wanders

 I lost my beautiful Finn back in July 2020, and our walks up to this time were getting shorter and shorter as he was getting very slow and finding it difficult to get in and out of the car.  The last photos I have of him walking are all along the banks of the Wensum, up to June 2020.

We generally walked along the Wensum if we were off to see Mum and Dad as it is en route, and Finn could have a lovely relax once we got to North Walsham.

New Buckenham

 

Our next training walk - in March 2020 - was at New Buckenham, but by this time we seem to have dispensed with cake and are on the bananas instead!

We started off with a real surprise - a Shetland pony on the path!

Oxborough

 Back in February 2020, Amanda and I set forth on another very muddy training walk on the lanes and footpaths around Oxborough.

Despite not actually getting around to walking the challenge event, we clearly enjoyed our training walks, as evidenced by our smiley faces!

And on such a cold day, it was fab to see the bright blue skies and the carpets of snowdrops everywhere - spring was on its way!

And of course, all finished off by cake.   (Although clearly not in the car as on previous walks, as there is definitely a china plate in evidence here, and we obviously didn't take posh crockery out with us!)
