Odds and Sods - January 2021

As expected, life is just all about Domino at the moment!   We're still in lockdown so we can't get out and about, can't go shopping as the only shops open are the supermarkets, can't visit friends or family.   So we're basically stuck indoors, which suits me when it's so cold anyway and I have a new pup to look after.   Because of issues with getting Domino's jabs sorted, we haven't been able to go out for walks, except in the past two weeks, so we were completely confined to quarters!

Domino is certainly very photogenic and looks very angelic, which is not always the case.  He's spent quite a bit of time in jail also!

My January monthly make was this beautiful summerweight jumper, made from Blue Fern yarn in mainly autumnal shades, but with a bright light blue thrown in.   I'm very pleased with my first make of the year.

I've also been making a string of mini gansey bunting - using up odds and sods and scraps of yarn.  I love them!

Domino

On Halloween, I discovered that my cousin's daughter's dog, Holly, had produced an unexpected and surprise litter of pups.   Mum, Holly, is a collie lab cross and Dad, Teddy, is one of the farm collies.  At the time, there was no way that I was thinking of getting a puppy and, in fact, I had an application in with the Dog's Trust for a one year old border collie who needed rehoming.   The rescue centres are inundated with applications for the dogs at the moment which is fantastic news, some of the dogs receiving upwards of a hundred applications!   However, my application wasn't successful and our longed for border collie was not to be.

Fast forward two weeks and Andy had persuaded me to contact Amy to see if any of the pups still needed a home - and some did.  With that, I chose a pup - from photos - and my fate was sealed!   He's called Domino - not only for his colouring, but also it's Latin for "Lord" or "master" which is pretty much what he has become already!

We were so lucky to be sent almost daily photos of our pup so we could see his progress, what a little lump!

We were due to pick him up on 27 December, but then Tier 4 happened, which meant that those people who lived in Tier 4 couldn't travel, meet anyone, etc.  We weren't Tier 4 (then!) in Norfolk, but Domino was!  And this was announced on the evening of Saturday 19 December, which necessitated an emergency dash down to Surrey to meet Amy and David in a supermarket car park to do the handover.  It all seemed a bit cloak and dagger!   But all went well and Domino came home with us and settled in immediately and has ruled the roost ever since!

We have a cage set up in the living room which is Domino's quiet space.  He frequently gets thrown "in jail" when he needs to calm down a bit, but those times are getting less and less now as he is definitely not quite as full on as he was to begin with.  Although he's definitely getting naughtier!

It's been a busy few weeks with this little one, but I'm hoping that now we can get him out for walks, he may start to calm down a bit!  Fingers crossed!
