Other People's Gardens - October 2017

Because October was so busy with trips, jollies and holidays, it appears I did absolutely nothing in my own garden, so no Seeds and Stuff Post and precious little in other people's gardens either!  I have been putting gardens to bed for the winter for clients though so there wasn't much going on anyway, other than tidying.

One of the last gardens I worked in just before packing up for winter is mainly made up of lawn and I'm afraid I know very little about lawns, not having one of my own.  I'm hoping that our practical course at college gives us more tips on what to do with them as I imagine I will get asked about this LOTS if I'm going to be doing this as a business.

While giving this lawn a haircut, I had the good fortune to be working in bright sunshine - although perishing cold! - and was rather taken with this tree which I believe is a Sorbus acauparia - sadly not in my client's garden, but just outside his boundary fence.  Stunning though.

Odds and Sods - October 2017

October was a very busy month, including trips to Sussex for a wedding and a holiday in Northumberland.

College has been pretty full on with my Tuesday evenings and all day on Wednesdays but I'm learning loads and buzzing about how I'm going to use it in the future.  We do things on an industrial level including planting up of cuttings, sowing of seeds and potting on of seedlings.  I will be an expert soon!

On the domestic front, Finn has been very clingy - we've had Diwali, Halloween and Bonfire Night with all the firework displays associated with these dates, and so Finn has been on a mild sedative for a few weeks.  We've had lots of cuddles and trying to get into small spaces and refusing to go outside in the evening for a wee - it's been exhausting, but I'm hoping we will have a few quieter weeks until the fireworks all start up again for New Year.
It's heartbreaking to see him so distressed, but, on the plus side, I do love the cuddles!

Dorset Walk

Andy had an appointment he could not get out of on the last day of our holiday, so left a day early, leaving me and Finn to enjoy a chilled out day at the lake.  Deb had lots of chores to carry out that day but came and found me to say she'd be taking Jess and Fat Al for a walk later if Finn and I would like to join them.  Well, of course!
The walk went practically from the farm gate and the bonus for the dogs was a swim when we got to the ford - it was such a hot day and Finn had already had a couple of swims in the lake, but I love any opportunity to get him out on a proper walk, especially one where he socialises with other dogs.
Finn was totally spoilt with love and adventures on this holiday - I do so love seeing him being a proper dog and not just my baby.
And the bonus is always that he's tired at the end of a walk and leaves me alone for the rest of the day!

Shepherd's Hut

Mainly, these photos are visual reminders of our lovely shepherd's hut, just in case Andy decides he'd like to build me one!  We would have to do an awful lot of downsizing and decluttering first of course, but I can dream .....!
