It's much bigger and there's much more to see and do.
Eden was on our list of places to visit so I did the usual research - opening times, admission prices, etc - before we left Norfolk. Each year, the Macmillan Cancer Charity runs a Christmas Fair which is held at the Eden Project, and Eden kindly waives its £25 admission fee for that day - all you need to do is pay the Christmas Fair admission fee (£15) which gets you access to all of Eden, entrance to the fair, plus a light lunch and glass of wine - what's not to love?! Bearing all that in mind, we decided to go on the day of the fair, expecting there to be hundreds of people milling about and for it to be a bit busy for a rainy and dank November Thursday. Not so! The other bonus is that dogs are allowed into everywhere too except for the biomes, including the shops - although I really do think the shop staff need to move the chocolates and biscuits above dog nose height!
The colours were beautiful - I wasn't expecting much from the gardens, but the planting thoughtfully gives interest all year round. And the berries! Gorgeous!
Because dogs aren't allowed into the biomes and it really wouldn't have been a good idea to take them into the Christmas fair either - clearly! - I sat outside with Sid and Finn while Amanda and Shannon had a tour of the biomes and had their own adventure climbing to the top of one of the domes. The boys were pretty good, although poor Sid did get a bit cold, bless him.
Lunch was warm bruschetta, with prosciutto, roasted garlic and a rocket salad - it was yum! And we got a glass of wine too which was a lovely touch - could possibly have done with warm mulled wine though by that time! And we could eat lunch in the undercover area between the biomes too so dogs, again, weren't excluded.
(What is going on with my photos lately? - stupid glitches not allowing me to put photos the right way up!)
Lunch was quite a lengthy affair as we variously wandered in and out of the Christmas fair while one of us sat with Finn and Sid outside and, by the time we finished, Sid was so cold that Amanda took him back to the car and to wait for us while we sauntered back in a leisurely fashion.
I love Shannon's face in this photo!
Such a great day, but I think we were glad to get back to the car as we were all feeling a bit damp and cold by the end of the afternoon. We spent a really good day there - about six hours in total! And we could easily have spent another day there - but perhaps would be better when it's a bit warmer and more flowers to see!
