Ely Christmas Fair

Back in November, Mum, Dad and I had a jaunt to Ely for their Christmas fair in the cathedral.  Aside from a few niggles - the length of the drive; the cold; the crowds; the park and ride being so far out of the city; the queues for getting lunch and coffees; and truly shocking service and treatment in a local tea rooms - it was actually a really nice day!  Although I'm not sure that Dad would agree or want to go there again at such a busy time of year.

The cathedral itself looked beautiful - really festive - and such a stunning building.  Amanda and I visited here well over five years ago now and said we'd definitely come back - and I still don't know why we haven't visited again in that time.  There were lots of lovely smelling stalls - one particularly selling Christmas wreaths and decorations made out of dried fruit and spices - the smell of oranges and cloves followed us around - fabulous!   Music was piped through the speaker system as we made our way around the stalls and it felt very festive indeed.
Here's Mum trying on hats again - it's a family tradition - I rather think she looks like the Queen here!
We were often to be found huddled up close to one of these old heaters for some warmth - and they did throw a lot of heat out too!

Felbrigg Walk With Me

As part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival last year, Felbrigg Hall, a north Norfolk National Trust property, had an interactive walking festival called Walk With Me which ran from May until the first week in November.  Amanda and I, being lastminute.com, decided to go and take part on the very last weekend of its run.  However, quite a lot of other disorganised people seemed to have done the same so we couldn't get on one of the walks - the NT only had a dozen or so GPS devices which were essential to the walk - it consisted of story telling on headphones, using the GPS location of the wearer.  Very clever, and very very annoying that we didn't get to do it!  Instead, we decided to do our own Walk With Me walk instead!
