Holiday Randoms - Flookburgh

In the middle of April, Finn and I had a holiday up near Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria - it was our fifth or sixth Sun £9.50 holiday now.  Basically you book for four people, but it's usually just me and Finn, although we have been away with Amanda and Andy before.  Invariably, it costs me £38 (for four people) plus about £20 for Finn - his holiday is the most expensive bit!  Because the holiday was for four nights - Monday to Thursday - we went there in a rather circuitous route, via Heathrow, so that we could visit Andy for a few days beforehand. 

Although for such a short time, we do have rather a lot of luggage!  I had two bags this time, one smaller one for the Heathrow weekend, plus my bigger holdall to pack all my walking gear.  One big bag of bedding so that we don't have to pay for that at the caravan - and of course I packed a big blanket to put over my bedding, just in case Finn wanted to get up on the bed.  In case!  Ha!  That was pretty inevitable.  Then Finn has his own bag - with his food, chews, shampoo, towel, hairdryer - because it's pretty much guaranteed that he's going to roll in something disgusting and need at least one bath.  Then I have my "entertainments" bag - basically, books, knitting and notebooks.  (Especially important this holiday as it was a continuation of "The Big Walk".)

Andy had to work on the Saturday that we were at the caravan at Heathrow, so Finn and I did lots of little walks out and about during the day to keep us entertained - lovely to see all the newborn lambs by the reservoir.

We left Andy's on the Monday to drive up to our Cumbrian caravan and didn't bother unpacking before heading over to the beach just behind the site and which is signposted the "Cumbria Coastal Path".  It was deserted!

We were so lucky!  And the weather was gorgeous all week too which was brilliant.

These photos were taken within an hour of us arriving at our destination - we were so lucky to have this beautiful beach, with the mountains in the background behind the village of Cartmel.

(I packed Finn's throw too so he could get up on the sofa with me.)

 

I spent a lot of time in my pyjamas at the end of the day, knitting.  (This is the Martin Storey Knitalong which will be covered in a separate post - if I ever finish it!)

 And, at the end of each day's walk, I wrote up the Walk Diary which will be posted in my other blog, along with the photos.

We managed two full days of walking on our holiday, with a day off in the middle because Finn was feeling a bit under the weather.  (Since coming home, the vet has suggested we shorten our walks a bit because Finn's getting on a bit now - like myself! - and neither of us can manage the big mileages very well any more -our recovery times are much longer!)

Such a beautiful spot, and hopefully we will be returning in October for two weeks this time, to carry on with the walking.  I'm very hopeful that we will have some beautiful sunny autumn days.
