Blossom and Yarn - Griston - Baptism

It was a miracle we found Griston church at all!  Our cause wasn't really helped by not having a road atlas in the car - doh!

This was probably the least rural church we visited - in fact we even got to park on a road for this one and not in a field!

There were some lovely exhibits in this church which brought back lots of lovely memories to all of us.

The models had more than a passing resemblance to our Royal Family, which was funny, and quite timely giving the new royal baby born this year.

Five down, one more to go!

Blossom and Yarn - Thompson - Harvest

Thompson church is very impressive and in an amazing setting with beautiful views out over the fields.

We got slightly lost on the way there and I guess we should have known that we were in the right place - the farm machinery outside the church - considering this was the Harvest church - should have given it away! (Forever known now as a hombine carvester, thanks to Shirley!)

Thompson was the largest church so far on our jaunt so it fell to reason that it would have the biggest exhibits.  However, nothing prepared us for this church - everything about it was absolutely stunning and, for once, I think I'm going to let the photos speak for themselves.

What a name!

The attention to detail in this exhibit was outstanding and, if I'd been a knitter, this is definitely the one I'd have least liked to be involved in - it looked beautiful but it was all way too fiddly for me!   I think this was the church I loved the most though. I have so much admiration for the knitters involved - I bet their joints aren't as arthriticky as mine are!

Of all the churches, this felt the most like a shared community project.  Outstanding.  (And still two more churches to go!)

Blossom and Yarn - Breckles - Easter

By the time we got to Breckles - our third church - we had gone past the point of hysteria and found everything hilarious - including the toilet in the churchyard.

What was even funnier was, after standing around outside laughing at this makeshift loo shed, someone came out of there!  I hope she didn't hear us!

Breckles is another beautiful little Norfolk church - and we were absolutely blessed with the weather for our jaunt.  Nothing like a jolly through the Norfolk countryside in the sunshine.  Even the fact that we kept getting lost did nothing to dampen our spirits - as Shirley pointed out, all the signposts were removed during the War and none of them appear to have been put back again!

So, we came to the Easter celebrations - so think Easter eggs, lent lilies, daffs and bunnies - this church did exactly what it says on the tin!

And it was at Breckles church that we discovered the secret to all the models - they were all based on real people.  So the church organist looks exactly like their current church organist and the verger looks exactly like their (retired) verger.  We guessed as much because of the attention to detail of each different character.

A really beautiful church - and we're halfway there!
